Legislative

The authority for a PTA's legislative activity is in the third PTA purpose: "To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth."

The Iowa and National PTA engage in legislative activity to the extent permitted by Section 501(c)(3)(h) of the Internal Revenue Code. Acting within this limitation and using their Legislative Programs as a guide, the Iowa and National PTA make their legislative voice heard with respect to proposed and enacted laws and regulations that concern the health, education, and welfare of ALL children and youth.

PTA is a non-partisan organization dealing with issues, not political endorsements. As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, the Iowa and National PTA remind our state and country of it obligations to children and provide parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child.

The major focus of current state and national programs and projects target parent involvement, health and safety of children, and increased child advocacy efforts in support of public education. Other issues are addressed as needed.
