Legislative

Dear Friends,

In March, 2018, a delegation from Iowa will  be visiting Washington, DC, to visit with our congressional representatives.  This is a part of National PTA's Legislative Conference where PTA members from every state will make visits on the same day. Our mission is to gain support of, and funding for Statewide Family Engagement Centers (SFECs) that are mandated in the enacted Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) formerly known as No Child Left Behind.

Iowa PTA works to empower family-school partnerships to positively impact student achievement and school improvement across our great state.  If we can ever be a resource to you, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at Iowa PTA, This email address is being protected from spambots. Make sure you attend LOCAL EVENTS in Iowa to ask local state legislators to support students in our schools and discussing your concerns on the folloiwng:

  • Of the low level of funding for public schools currently under consideration (1.5% increase, which is less than inflation for the previous year of 2.1%).

  •

Let them know you do not want teacher credentials weakened, teachers should continue to pass their exams to show their proficiency in their work.

  •

Any considerations of vouchers or removing funds from public schools to be given to private schools is not helpful for all Iowa children.

On a Federal level - there is a question whether or not the CHiP program (medicare program for youth) should continue as part of a long-term plan or just a short-term stopgap. For the health and well-being of all children,we must support a long-term solution.
