Merging PTA Units

With redistricting and school consolidations becoming a common occurrence in Iowa, the need to merge PTA units has also become a common-day occurrence.

When two or more schools are consolidated, the PTA units of the old schools need to be dissolved and a new unit formed. This process is necessary to comply with state and federal laws governing non-profit organizations and to ensure that funds from the old units are accounted for.

The Iowa PTA has developed a procedure and set of checklists to be used by local units of schools that are being closed or consolidated. Use this information to ensure that all steps necessary to accomplish the process are followed. Be sure to contact the Iowa PTA Office with any questions or concerns that may arise.
